Keren Besner is a freelance writer from Montreal who was interested in developing a cartoon-based logo for her visual identity and a banner for her website. She wanted a logo that matched the concept behind her website, backseatmummy.com. As Keren described to me, her children are a huge priority which makes her feel that she is not always running the show. In being a mother, Keren feels akin to a backseat driver at times.
The logo matches the backseatmummy concept by literally depicting 3 children driving a SUV (quite unsafely) while their mother is in the back seat and clutching the door. The cartoon is cute with flat, bright colours to reflect the content Keren writes about: women, motherhood, young children and family life. I also designed the cartoon with flat colours and shapes so that its details are still discernible when reproduced at small sizes.
Keren was a pleasure to work with because she can clearly articulate what she wants. Her clarity of expression is certainly reflected in her writing. Keren kindly described our collaboration:
“Michel understood my idea from our very first conversation. He just go it. He was able to create the exact image that I had in my head. Michel is nothing but professional and timely. Working with him was easy and a pleasure. There is no question that I would use his services again.”

Helen Wolkowicz is an emerging author from Montreal. Her specialty is young adult fiction and transgender issues. Helen’s writing style is bold, emotional and intelligent. Her subject matter is meticulously researched and her characters dynamic. I thoroughly enjoy her work.
Helen approached me to design her logo and stationery with a clean, personal and professional look, one that would leave a memorable first impression. On our collaboration, Helen says:
“Michel and I discussed several solutions that would best express my visual identity as an author. Based on our discussions, he quickly honed in on the type of logo that would meet my specific needs. I wanted to ensure that the logo reflected both my personality and my work. My logo is exactly what I wanted: it's bold, sleek, and it makes a distinctive statement. I believe the end result is due to the fact that Michel involved me in the design process. His professionalism made the process easy: from conception, to thumbnails, and finally, communicating with the printer on my behalf ensured a high-quality end product.”
