Youth in Care Comics (2010)

In November and December of 2010, youth advocate and social worker Lisa Davis and I co-facilitated a comics program with a child welfare agency in Ontario. Lisa and I taught a small, closed group of youth how to create short comics on their experiences as youth in care living in Ontario. The goal of the comics program was to explore how youth in care could gain ownership of their lived experiences by retelling their life stories in comics form.

In taking issues of confidentiality seriously with this youth population, no learner artwork from the workshops is public. However, the how-to-comics booklet that was designed for the learners participating in the workshop can be downloaded below. It offers a basic overview of how to make comics.
